Third Tuesday of Easter

Hunger! Thirst!

From today’s Scripture: “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst.” —Jn 6:35

St. Augustine says, “You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you.” The deep hunger in us can only be satisfied by Jesus. Our thirst can only be quenched by him.

Heaven is often portrayed as a banquet. Isaiah 25:6 paints a picture of this banquet as “a feast of rich food and choice wines, juicy, rich food and pure, choice wines.” Longing for this heavenly banquet is a hunger and a thirst that Jesus begins to satisfy now in this earthly life. Rejoice and taste and see how good the Lord is!

Let us pray: Lord, feed me and give me drink. I am hungry and thirsty for you. Only you can and will satisfy me.
