Third Sunday of Lent

Justified anger

From today’s Scripture: “…he said, ‘Take these out of here, and stop making my Father’s house a marketplace.’”—Jn 2:16

This is one of the few times in Scripture do we find Jesus so angry. He was so upset not because people were selling outside the temple. His anger comes from people who were selling at an inflated price animals to be sacrificed in the temple. Many traveled far, and often they bought the animal sacrifice when they arrived. The poor were being ripped off as the sellers became rich. Jesus should be angry. We also should be angry when we see and hear our brothers and sisters suffer because of the injustice of the world.

Let us pray: We pray that our lives speak of love and kindness to all of our brothers and sisters.
