The Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ

Respond to the need.

From today’s Scripture: Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.” —Mt 25:34-36

I’m not a perfect person. None of us are. But every day, I try to embody the kindness and love that I long to see in our cruel world. It can be disheartening to see all the bad that occurs. In the face of wars, illness, loss, and other hardships beyond my control, I feel so small. After all, I’m just one imperfect person.

But God wants each and every one of our lives to overflow with love and compassion. Though it would be easy to turn away from the harsh realities that fill our world, he calls us to respond to those in need with our love and actions. There is no time like the present for us to come together to serve those that need us–in whatever capacity we are able. When we serve those in need, we serve God himself.

Let us pray: Lord, guide me in my service to you and those in need. Help me to do my part in empowering struggling communities. Aid me in spreading the love I long to see.
