Sts. Philip and James

Daily Reflection

Sts. Philip and James

See by the light.

From today’s Scripture: “Jesus answered them, ‘I told you and you do not believe. The works I do in my Father’s name testify to me. But you do not believe, because you are not among my sheep.’”Jn 10:25-26

Have you ever had to explain something to another person who refuses to believe it—whether a friend, child, or relative? No matter how logically you lay out your explanation or how many sources you cite, they refuse to believe you. In today’s Gospel, Jesus encounters the same stubbornness. Despite all the miracles, the crowd refuses to see who Jesus is. No amount of proof will change their mind.

Today’s reading takes place during the feast of Dedication of the Temple (also known as  Hanukkah, and as the Festival of Lights) but the crowd continues to stumble in the dark. They are blind to the works of Jesus and his words, just like the friend who continues to say, “Prove it,” despite your efforts.

Let us pray: Jesus, help me to listen and understand your words. Let me follow the light you provide.
