Faithful witness
From today’s Scripture: “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” —Acts 7:59
The day after Christmas, we are confronted with the cost of following Jesus by the stoning of St. Stephen. Just because it is Christmas, we may not be spared sorrow, pain, or conflict. St. Stephen, at the point of death, echoes the voice of Christ on the cross. We, too, can surrender our spirit in the face of suffering knowing the Christ is with us (Emmanuel) now and always.
Let us pray: Lord, may I be a faithful witness to the miracle of your incarnation, life, death, and resurrection. When I am faced with suffering, may I surrender my Spirit into your hands.
