From today’s Scripture: “Rather, whoever wishes to be great among you shall be your servant; whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave. Just so, the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.”  — Mt 20:26-27

When visiting an office to handle a personal matter or assist someone else, the person providing the service is usually very kind and helpful, though in some cases, the opposite is true. Such is reality; everyone has their own motivations and approaches when it comes to serving others.

That is why Jesus’ call to be “servants” can be challenging in our daily lives, especially in a world where personal ambition and competition are commonplace. Yet, if we accept this invitation, our actions toward others take on profound meaning, as we treat people with love and patience.

By placing ourselves at the service of others, we can cultivate deeper, more meaningful relationships with those around us, while simultaneously contributing to a more just and compassionate world.

Let us pray: Lord, help me to serve others each day, always seeking the well-being of others before my own.
