Sixth Tuesday of Easter

Closer to God

From today’s Scripture: “Grief has filled your hearts. But I tell you the truth, it is better for you that I go.”—Jn 16:6-7

Like the disciples, I want the familiar teacher who I can see and hear, not the invisible, untouchable, ambiguous spirit. But fortunately or unfortunately, God always calls us closer to him. In the Holy Spirit we are able to unite our innermost self with God and God is able to come into our innermost selves if and when we choose to let him in.

Where is God trying to be closer to you? Can you acknowledge to yourself that you might be holding God at arm’s length in that area? Can you talk to God about what a silly human you are and why it’s scary to trust him?

Let us pray: My Lord, I believe in you but my faith is lacking; help my unbelief!
