Sixth Monday of Easter

Daily Reflection

Sixth Monday of Easter

Judge not.

From today’s Scripture: “They will expel you from the synagogues; in fact, the hour is coming when everyone who kills you will think he is offering worship to God.”—Jn 16:2

Today those of us who wish to be like Christ, asking the person without sin to cast the first stone, may be in danger. We may be thrown out of our “synagogues” and “killed” among our friends, families, and communities for empathizing with the women who choose to end their pregnancies. We cannot be silent, though, because Jesus did send the Holy Spirit, and he did appoint us to testify to the truth.

The truth is that God is merciful and he alone may judge. We are called to be merciful as he is merciful and to love as he loves. Jesus holds his hand out to all of us, including the woman who chose to end her child’s life. He would bring her in, not cast her out and blame her.

Let us pray: Lord God, I know that your heart breaks for the women who choose not to bring life into this world. We know that you are with them in their pain. Help us to have hearts like yours, Lord, and hands that are always open to others. Give us the courage to be witnesses of your love in this world.
