Fourth Wednesday of Lent

God is the perfect parent

From today’s Scripture: “But Zion said, ‘The Lord has forsaken me; my Lord has forgotten me.’ Can a mother forget her infant, be without tenderness for the child of her womb? Even should she forget, I will never forget you.”—Is 49:14-15

I recently heard a Catholic speaker talk about motherhood. Her daughter was in high school at the time when she said she wished she could have given her daughter more—more of her time, more attention, more material things so that she would not have been wanting for anything. But then the speaker said, all of those experiences, even the times when she couldn’t give her daughter more, is what made her into the independent, faithful, loving adult that she is now.

At times we may feel like God has forgotten us. But he is the perfect parent, always caring for us and walking with us. The experiences he allows for us to endure help us to become more fully the person that he created us to be.

Let us pray: Lord God, help me to feel your presence in my life today.
