Fourth Thursday of Lent

Seek the right approval

From today’s Scripture: “How can you believe, when you accept praise from one another and do not seek the praise that comes from the only God?”—Jn 5:44

St. John Vianney said, “Do not try to please everybody. Try to please God, the angels, and the saintsthey are your public.” Although it may feel good to receive the approval of our family and friends, it should not be our ultimate goal. Instead, we should strive to live in a way that pleases the saints, angels, and God himself. The saints know the path that leads to heaven, and when we live in a way that seeks to please them, we know we are headed down the right path.

Let us pray: Lord God, help me to let go of seeking the approval of my peers and focus on doing what is pleasing to you.
