Fourth Monday of Lent

Hear and believe

From today’s Scripture: “Jesus said to him, ‘You may go; your son will live.’”—Jn 4:50

Most of the miracles that Jesus performs have an element of touch or physical nearness. But that’s not the case in today’s Gospel. Jesus simply says the words, “Your son will live,” and the boy recovers, back in the royal official’s house at least a day’s walk from where Jesus was.

There is power in the very words that Jesus speaks. He continues to speak to us today, in the quiet of our hearts and through the sacraments. May we hear and believe his words so that they can transform our lives.

Let us pray: Lord Jesus, you were able to heal the boy with your words. Quiet my heart, and help me hear the words you wish to speak to me today.
