Fourth Friday of Lent

Lean on Christ

From today’s Scripture: “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted.”—Ps 34:19

Several years ago, my aunt died unexpectedly. I spent a lot of time in prayer that summer as I grieved. It comforted me to know that Jesus, too, experienced similar grief while he was on earth—at the death of his adopted father, at the tomb of his friend Lazarus. Jesus, in his humanity, experienced what we experience in our lives that make us brokenhearted. He felt sorrow, loneliness, abandonment, and betrayal, too. In those moments of suffering, let us lean on Christ to be our rock and companion.

Let us pray: Lord Jesus, you experienced suffering in your life on this earth. Fill those areas of my life that leave me brokenhearted with your love.
