Good News

From today’s Scripture: “Mary went and announced to the disciples, ‘I have seen the Lord.’”—Jn 20:18

After Jesus’ crucifixion, there could have been no better news for Mary Magdalene and the apostles than the announcement that Jesus was alive. He had risen from the dead. This news changed everything for Jesus’ disciples—and for us. This is a reason we call the Gospel the Good News. God entered the world as a small child; was fully human in all things but sin; was crucified; and conquered death. All so we may be saved! The Good News of our salvation embodied Mary’s words from today’s Gospel: “I have seen the Lord.”

Let us pray: Dear God, you so loved the world that you gave your only son, so that we who believe will not perish, but have eternal life. This good news lifts my soul and gives me hope. Help me to never turn away from you.
