Easter Thursday

Bread of Angels

From today’s Scripture: The disciples of Jesus recounted what had taken place along the way, and how they had come to recognize him in the breaking of bread.”—Lk 24:35

The Eucharist is at the heart of Christian life, the “source and summit of Catholic worship,” in the words of the bishops at Vatican Council lI. Our Eucharist is food for our faith, is food for our journeyour tradition pours forth with this poetry of understanding. It is food for “the way” that same way that we hear of in today’s Scripture.

Many of us were on a scant diet during the years of the pandemic. Remember when watching Mass on TV was the closest that many came to the Eucharist? Perhaps we have learned a bit about how important this “food for the journey” is to us. Absence, they say, makes the heart grow fonder.

Let us pray: Lord, help me along your way with the Holy Eucharist. Raise up from among us good and holy priests who will bring the sacrament to your people.
