Daily Reflection

25th Monday in Ordinary Time

We are the light of the world.

From today’s Scripture: “‘No one who lights a lamp conceals it with a vessel or sets it under a bed; rather, he places it on a lampstand so that those who enter may see the light.’”—Lk 8:16

As I read this passage from Luke, I immediately wanted to sing Jean Anthony Greife’s joyful lyrics, “We are the light of the world. May our light shine before all, that they may see the good that we do and give glory to God.”

Jesus gives us a vivid image in this parable about being open with the Gospel message and not keeping it to ourselves. That message includes the promise of eternal life for those who believe. What better way to give glory to God than to share his loving promise with those we meet?

Let us pray: Lord, you have done great things for us, we rejoice in your kindness and mercy. Thank you for the blessings in my life and the opportunities to shine your light in the darkness.
