Daily Reflection

18th Saturday in Ordinary Time

God is at work.

From today’s Scripture: “He said to them, ‘Because of your little faith. For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; nothing will be impossible for you.”—Mt 17:20

The disciples fail to accomplish the healing mission Jesus gave them. Why? Because of their “little faith.” Many times, what is translated as faith could also be translated as trust, loyalty, or fidelity to the Lord. When I reread this verse and substitute trust for faith, I realize that faith demands more than believing mentally that the Lord can move mountains. Mountain moving demands my trust that even in my failures, God is at work. What is needed is my perseverance, cooperation, and determination so that He can make the mountains move.

Let us pray: Today, Lord, use my faltering trust and my willingness to persevere as you are present in the mountainous situations of this day.
