15th Wednesday in Ordinary Time

Sharing our faith

From today’s Scripture:God said, ‘Come no nearer! Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground.’”

Holy ground is something our faith challenges us to consider. In light of a culture that seems constantly to value things over people, God invites us to go to the deep; to see beyond the things around us into the presence of God everywhere.

Holy ground is the ground all around us, certainly. Our love of creation reflects that.

But holy ground also is the people whom we see daily, the ground in which the seed of God’s word is planted and grown. Pope Francis once spoke of the young people, and everyone’s potential, as holy ground: God “knows how to cherish and nurture the seeds of goodness sown in the hearts of the young. Each young person’s heart should thus be considered ‘holy ground’, a bearer of seeds of divine life, before which we must ‘take off our shoes’ in order to draw near and enter more deeply into the Mystery.” Christ is alive, the pope proclaims. “Everything he touches becomes young, new, full of life. Christ is alive and he wants you to be alive!”
