13th Wednesday in Ordinary Time

Fear not.

From today’s Scripture: Thereupon the whole town came out to meet Jesus, and when they saw him they begged him to leave their district.” Mt 8:34

Can you imagine telling our Lord to get lost? We see it in today’s Gospel and shake our knowing heads, but we ourselves tell Jesus to get lost all of the time. Of course we don’t say it quite like that! But we do often turn away from Jesus.

We fight with each other, we hoard our goods, we act in fear against people whom we don’t understand. All of this is our own invitation for Jesus to go elsewhere, to NOT be the one in our lives who tells us, “be not afraid.” Jesus always waits, though, for us to invite him back.

Let us pray: Show me your ways, O Lord. Help dispel fear in my life, help me to trust more in everything that you promise.
