13th Thursday in Ordinary Time

Father of faith

From today’s Scripture: ‘Abraham, Abraham!’ ‘Here I am,’ he answered.” —Gn 22:11

Does faith lead us forward? It ought to! We hear Abraham’s story today as he takes each turn, listening to God’s word and seeking to obey. God is testing Abraham, it’s true, but God is merciful.

How often we stumble in the dark, it seems. Life throws us a curve, maybe a conflict in our family or at work, maybe a difficult situation with a friend or neighbor. In a certain sense, we’re being tested, or at least challenged to live by faith. God is taking care of us. God is merciful. We are invited to believe that, again and again.

Let us pray: Lord, give me faith! Help me to trust in you today, to release my worries into your loving care.
