From today’s Scripture: “Many are invited, but few are chosen.” — Matthew 22:14
The parable in today’s reading is particularly difficult. Understandably, the leaders who rejected the “king’s invitation” to the wedding feast are in turn deemed “not worthy to come.” But the surprise twist for me is that some of the guests who did respond and came to the feast were bound and “cast into the darkness outside” because they were not wearing the proper wedding garment. I heard it said that the appropriate garment is “an external sign of our inner efforts to respond to God’s invitation of love with love.” I have to ask myself, “What are my inner efforts today, and how is that shared with others?”
Let us pray: O Lord, today I offer you my inner reflections and ask you to show me what ways I need to change to fully love you as you have loved me.
