From today’s Scripture: “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” — Matthew 22:37-39
I read somewhere that there were over 600 laws during the time of Jesus. Laws were supposed to give life and blessings. With so many laws to try and remember, it seems like asking which is the greatest or the most important to keep is a valid question. But Jesus makes it even simpler when he tells us to love God and love our neighbor. In essence, we cannot do one without the other. Simple but not easy to always do. How can I find time today to show my love to God by taking the time for prayer and to show my love to my neighbor, and as Matthew 25 states, my neighbors are the poor, the hungry, the thirsty, the stranger, the naked, the ill, and the prisoners.
Let us pray: Lord, you know that I love you, although I fail to show it sometimes. Help me to also love my neighbor today and best serve their needs.
