From today’s Scripture: “When I found your words, I devoured them; they became my joy and the happiness of my heart, because I bore your name, O LORD, God of hosts.” — Jer 15:16

Recently, I had the opportunity to see a video of an indigenous tribe receiving their first Bibles translated into their native language. For many years, they had relied on oral storytelling of Scripture stories passed on to them by visiting missionaries. It was deeply moving to watch the indigenous pastor receive the Bibles and pray in thanksgiving to God for the gift of the Scriptures written in their native language. This story also reminds me of my friends with disabilities who rely on assistive technology or Braille to reflect on the Scriptures, and how full of joy they are when they receive the services they need to better cultivate their life of faith. It is humbling for those of us who have multiple means of accessing the Word of God much more easily. May their joy and dedication inspire us to dedicate time and effort to studying Sacred Scripture while promoting greater access to all peoples and nations.

Let us pray: Lord God, thank you for giving us the gift of your Word and the opportunity to share it with others.
