From today’s Scripture: “I went down to the potter’s house and there he was, working at the wheel. Whenever the object of clay which he was making turned out badly in his hand, he tried again.” — Jer 18:3-4

When I first read this Scripture passage, the often-sung hymn “Abba, Father,” came to mind, which speaks of God the Father as the potter, humanity as the clay, and our prayer to be molded and fashioned to become more like Jesus. There are a variety of other hymns referencing this important Scripture, each with their own thought-provoking message. But in reading this version of the Scripture passage itself, I was struck by how God the Potter tries again, each time we make a mistake or turn away from Him. God not only molds us into something suitable for His glory, but He also never gives up. I hope that inspires you, as it does me, to keep getting up and trying again each time we sin and miss the mark God encourages us to aim for. Indeed, we are the work of your hands, Father, mold us and fashion us into the image of your son, Jesus.

Let us pray: We give praise to you Father, for your willingness to try again each time we fail to conform ourselves to your divine plan for our lives.
