Monday of Holy Week

Monday of Holy Week

How have we done?

From today’s Scripture: ”Here is my servant, whom I uphold.” —Is 42:1

Doesn’t it feel like Lent just began last week? How can it be Monday of Holy Week already? Now that we have already journeyed five weeks of Lent we might be unsure at how well we have done. Maybe we have not been able to keep all of our Lenten intentions. Have we returned to some of the old habits we tried to give up? Maybe we have gotten distracted and forgotten to pray every day. That is okay, God is still here for us, and even during this last week of Lent we can begin again.

I am reminded of the reading from the Book of Joel which we heard way back on the first day of Lent. It says that God is, “gracious and merciful is he, slow to anger, rich in kindness, and relenting in punishment.”  No matter how far we have or have not made it our Lenten journey there is still time and God still loves us.

Let us pray: O loving God, who created the heavens and the earth and given breath to me. You know me better than anyone. You also know that I have not always lived up to the promises I made to you and sometimes I have fallen back on my old unhealthy habits. I am grateful that I can turn to you now and try again.
