Memorial of Sts. John de Brébeuf and Issac Jogues, Priests, and Companions, Martyrs

Ordinary Time Header-2

From today’s Scripture: “For we are his handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for good works that God has prepared in advance, that we should live in them.” — Ephesians 2:10

Glenmary Home Missioners has our Blessed Virgin Mary as our patroness and under the rare title of “Our Lady of the Fields.” The title speaks to the sometimes obscure and neglected needs of the “rural fields” of America. But Glenmary Home Missioners also has other patrons. Special among them are the North American Martyrs, those honored by the Mother Church, at least here in the United States, today! For us Glenmary Home Missioners, we look up to the life of Saints John de Brébeuf and Isaac Jogues as a paradigm for our very sense of mission. These 17th-century French Jesuit missionaries chose a narrow path that fewer traveled; theirs was a life of solidarity with indigenous populations even to the point of death.

Let us pray: We pray for Glenmary home missioners and for enough vocations, that, inspired by the heroic lives of Isaac Jogues and his companions, men and women may enter this path of life in search of God. Amen.
