Holy Saturday

Holy Week Header-3

From today’s Scripture: “In the beginning, when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless wasteland, and darkness covered the abyss, while a mighty wind swept over the waters. Then God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light. God saw how good the light was. God then separated the light from the darkness. God called the light ‘day,’ and the darkness he called ‘night.’ Thus evening came, and morning followed—the first day.” —Gen 1:1-5

And so it began: light and darkness; good and evil; life and death. The epic struggle is brought to a climax on this most holy of nights: “Where oh death is your victory? Where oh death is your sting?” On this night we celebrate the one who is the Alpha and Omega. This is the night of which it is written: the night shall be as bright as day, dazzling is the night for me, and full of gladness. Jesus, the Morning Star who never sets, Christ your Son, who, coming back from death’s domain, has shed his peaceful light on humanity.

Let us pray: Father, thank you for the gift of your Son, Jesus, who embraced our humanity and shows us the way to eternal life. Give us throughout the Easter season the grace of joy that we might bask in the light of the Morning Star that never sets.  Alleluia!
