December 1 began a new liturgical year and season for the Catholic Church. Advent, about four weeks long, is a time to prepare our hearts and minds for the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
“Think of Mary and Joseph,” says Father Dan Dorsey, Glenmary’s president. “These were two people who are not important by any standards, and yet their utter trust of God gave birth to Jesus, who became the Messiah, the king of the world.”
As we enter into the Advent season, Father Dan reminds us that we, too, are called to bring light to the world.
“Think and pray for an outpouring of God’s Holy Spirit,” Father Dan suggests. “What is it that you need to proclaim that light to a world that often is in darkness?”
One opportunity for more prayer is through Glenmary’s Daily Reflections. Written by the Glenmary family, these reflections include the day’s Scripture, a short reflection, and prayer. Sign up to receive them here.
