Glenmary Home Missioners, the Glenmary Challenge, and El Reto received ten awards from the Catholic Media Association this year, a 900-member organization that celebrates excellence in Catholic journalism and communications.

Here is the full list of recognitions and links to our award-winning work:

First Place – Best Video about Religious Life
Glenmary Priesthood, Hundredfold Media, Father Aaron Wessman, and the Glenmary Communications Team
“The narrative was succinct and to the point, closely tying into the supporting the visuals. There was effective use of motion graphics and aerial shots, especially in communicating the remoteness of the locations and enhancing the subject matter. Many strong entries brought something unique and creative to the competition, making the selection of winners especially challenging.”

Third Place – Magazine of the Year, Missions
Glenmary Challenge, Glenmary Communications Team and Contributors
“The magazine is clearly tailored to its mission, audience, and purpose, with that focus evident in every editorial and design decision. Each issue consistently reflects a strong sense of identity and intent in how it serves and represents its community.”

Second Place – Best Regular Column on Religious Life
From the President, Father Dan Dorsey
“These articles are beautifully written and formatted. They are filled with compassion, knowledge, and hope. This column shows a remarkable dedication to sharing wisdom and life lessons with readers.”

First Place – Best Essay in a Mission Magazine
Children of Immigrants Transform Hearts, Father Steve Pawelk
“The writing in this essay is heartfelt rather than flashy, providing clear and real examples of how the children at the heart of this central issue in our society have transformed his heart.”

Honorable Mention – Best Feature Article in a Missions Magazine
After the Flood, Theresa Nguyen-Gillen

First Place – Best Reporting on Vocations to Priesthood, Religious Life or Diaconate
In Search of Latino Vocations, Omar Cabrera
“This is thoughtful, timely reporting that addresses a real pastoral need with clarity and purpose. The story stands out for identifying a significant gap between the Latino Catholic population and the number of Latino priests, then grounding that larger issue in voices from the field, concrete statistics, and Glenmary’s active efforts to respond through retreats, follow-up, and relationship building. It is focused, relevant, and forward-looking in the best sense.”

Second Place – Best Cover (Spanish)
El Reto Invierno 2025, Omar Cabrera and Emilie Winner
“Layouts featuring one person can be boring, but this is an innovative design. The priest projects joy and hope in a way consonant with the mission, and he is presented as humble and positive rather than attention-seeking or proud. The background frames him rather than distracts, reminding through the symbols of the faith what the mission of the Church really is. Meanwhile the color and font of the journal title complement all of this without pulling attention.”

First Place – Hot Topic: The Papal Conclave and the Election of Pope Leo XIV
El Papa de los Dos Mundos, Omar Cabrera
“This story is an excellent and moving account of the pope’s ties to both the United States and Peru, effectively conveying the significance of his dual identity and what it represents for the Church and the communities connected to his life and mission.

Honorable Mention – Best Feature Writing
Un Llamado Urgente al Servicio, Omar Cabrera

First Place – Best Story and Photo Package by an Individual
Un Llamado Urgente al Servicio, Omar Cabrera
“This was an interesting story, well-written and with great visuals. The author/photographer did a great job painting the picture of what happened right at the start, grabbing the reader’s attention and introducing what seems like a great priest.”
