The Glenmary Home Missioners joyfully celebrates the historic election of Pope Leo XIV, the first American to serve as the Holy Father. This is a moment of great hope and renewal for the Church, especially for Catholics across the United States.

Pope Leo XIV brings a unique voice to the papacy—one shaped by the American experience and the challenges and gifts of ministering in diverse and often underserved communities. His deep pastoral heart, grounded in humility and service, reflects the very mission Glenmary embraces in rural and mission areas.

“We have to seek together to be a missionary church. A church that builds bridges and dialogue,” he said on the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica.

We are inspired by his commitment to inclusion, evangelization, and care for those on the margins. As missioners to the forgotten corners of our own nation, we see in Pope Leo XIV someone who understands the power of presence, the importance of listening, and the urgency of love in action.

We pray for Pope Leo XIV as he begins this sacred responsibility. May the Holy Spirit guide him, and may his leadership bring renewed strength and unity to the Church.
