23rd Thursday in Ordinary Time

From today’s Scripture: “Jesus said to his disciples: ‘To you who hear I say, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.” — Lk 6:27-28

Did you know that eliminating one enemy results in creating more enemies? Thus, we find ourselves under threat more than ever before. Imagine how much blood is spilled, how much energy is invested and how much resources are spent to eliminate the enemy! The aftermath is known: multiplication of our fears, suffering, and more enemies. What are we to do? We are called upon to love our enemies because we created them. Love and a sweet smile are the most powerful weapons available to us to disarm and eliminate our enemies. Remember the Golden Rule, “Do to others as you would have them do to you.”

Let us pray: Lord, it is only through forgiveness and humility that we would be free from hatred. It is only through the way of love that we become true followers of your Son. Send us the spirit of never giving up on doing what you want of us. Amen.
