From today’s Scripture: “People do not put new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the skins burst, the wine spills out, and the skins are ruined.”—Mt 9:16
I answered yes to the summons, “Come, follow me.” I went where I did not know and was never the same. Competing, getting ahead, and staying on top no longer own my soul, consume my heart, or diminish my joy. This transformation left me in holy awe and inner peace. I began to work with an awareness that though what I am doing will be of service to our world, it is my being in the world that is the essence of all I do. I came to a point where my deep gladness met the world’s deep needs. To go back to climbing the corporate ladder is going back to the world of the workaholic who is popularly revered and esteemed and that the bottom line is production. Unfortunately, a heart attack is often the wake-up call to slow down and to re-evaluate what is essential in life.
Let us pray: Lord, help us to accept, embrace, and be grateful for all we have now.
