14th Sunday in Ordinary Time

From today’s Scripture: “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.”—Mt 11:28-30

I often experience fear; fear of falling short of what is asked of me, and fear of falling short of what I ask of myself. Fear has a way of narrowing our focus, causing us to overlook the quiet ways God is working in our lives. More often than not, when I pray over these fears, I am met with the same invitation: humility and trust.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus reminds me that I do not have to carry my burdens alone. Instead, he invites me to come to him, to learn from his humility, and to trust in his care for me.

Let us pray: “Shepherd Me O God, beyond my wants beyond my fears, from death into life.”
