From today’s Scripture: “Do not be like them. Your Father knows what you need before you ask him.”—Mt 6:8
I am sure we have all been at meetings where someone closes the gathering with prayer. The prayer starts with “Lord, we thank you,” then proceeds to “we pray for,” followed by instructions to God on what he needs to do to handle the presented situation, and eventually to the closing “In Jesus’ name we pray.” Sometimes our prayer can be the same as we present our wants and needs.
Jesus assures us that our loving father knows all of our needs before we even know what to ask for. He wants us to come to him as his beloved children, calling him Our Father. He calls us into an intimate relationship for he truly knows and loves us. He wants to provide for all our daily needs.
Let us pray: Father, help me to see myself as your beloved child. As I pray this prayer you have given to us, help me to do it slowly so that I can hear and embrace each word. Let it become a conversation with you.
