11th Tuesday in Ordinary Time

From today’s Scripture: “But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your heavenly Father…”—Mt 5:44-45

I loved to go hiking with my family, especially when we would visit the National Parks.  In planning our trips, we would study the travel guides and descriptions of the various beautiful sites to see. Some sites would offer a couple of ways to hike to see the crowning glory of the destination — one way easy, the other more strenuous.

Jesus is giving us two ways to walk. The “You have heard it said” trail or the “But I say to you” trail. The first is just a loop. The second leads you to your crowning glory, which is eternity with him. The second is hard, but he has shown us the way. We must share the love he has given to us. We must recognize that God loves us all. We must pray for those who persecute us. We must never forget that he walks with us and we can lean into him.

Let us pray: Lord, give me the grace to love like you and to forgive those who have hurt me.
