From today’s Scripture: “The one who feeds on me will have life because of me.”—Jn 6:57

I always laugh out loud when I see commercials for online gambling. The ad depicts the most exciting, awesome, sure way to win money and have fun. The biggest stars and celebrities are promoting and doing it. Amazing stuff! One bet for $5 gets you $200 for other bets. Wow! Who could lose?

And then comes the disclaimer: Gambling can lead to serious problems. If you or someone you know has a gambling problem, call this number. Phew, thanks for that warning. I better stay away! If only other areas of life had warnings or disclaimers.

Well, actually, Jesus gives us a huge warning in today’s Gospel that sure gets my attention. “Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you.” I think we all want life. Jesus is waiting for us to heed his warning.

Let us pray: Lord Jesus, lead us to a deeper longing for you in the Eucharist.
