From today’s Scripture: “Philip ran up and heard him [the Ethiopian eunuch] reading Isaiah the prophet and said, ‘Do you understand what you are reading?’ He replied, ‘How can I, unless someone instructs me?’”—Acts 8:30
This is a chance encounter. The Ethiopian eunuch is traveling home and is reading the prophet Isaiah. But he needs help in understanding Isaiah. It is surprising that someone from Ethiopia would have a copy of the Jewish prophet Isaiah and be able to read Hebrew. Many today may be interested in the Scriptures — but the Bible can be intimidating. Thankfully, we have all kinds of resources, written and on the internet, that can help us.
Let us pray: Lord, please deepen our love for your written word. May the Bible be ever close to us and may we read it frequently.
