29th Monday in Ordinary Time

OT Summer Email Header 2025-3

From today’s Scripture: “Thus will it be for the one who stores up treasure for himself but is not rich in what matters to God.”—Lk 12:21

I travel all over the United States doing vocation work and other ministry for Glenmary. Three things that I find everywhere I go: bugs, sparrows, and mini storages. From burgeoning cities to the tiniest towns, one does not have to look far for storage spaces.

In fact, the storage industry in the United States, as estimated by the 2024 SpareFoot report, is worth over 40 billion dollars!

It has always been difficult for me to reconcile this reality with Jesus’ words in Luke’s Gospel today. Luke is the great Evangelist always inviting us to think about what role money, possessions and, well, greed, play in our lives.

I wonder what St. Luke would say to us (including me) about our storing up items…

Let us pray: Lord, help me to be rich in what matters to you, rather than the things of this world.
