24th Friday in Ordinary Time

OT Summer Email Header 2025-3

From today’s Scripture: “Accompanying him were the Twelve and some women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, Joanna, the wife of Herod’s steward Chuza, Susanna, and many others who provided for them out of their resources.”—Lk 8:1-3

This Scripture highlights one characteristic of generosity. It is a radical response to an encounter with Jesus. Mary, Joanna, and Susanna were not really the type of women moms would want their sons to date or marry! But the trajectory of their lives changed when they encountered Jesus. He accepted them. He healed them. He welcomed them. And their response was radical: They left everything and followed him. Their whole lives became a series of selfless, generous giving.

When our generosity is a personal response to an encounter with Jesus, it transforms us, our priorities, and our values. It brings us fulfillment and joy. It leads us to seek more opportunities to give of our time, talent, and treasure.

Let us pray: Lord Jesus, may we encounter you today and help us to respond generously to your call.
