From today’s Scripture: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life.”—Jn 3:16
In my childhood home, there was a crucifix in every room. I remember once asking my grandmother why we have so many crucifixes in the house. She simply answered, “To remind us that God is in charge. Everything will be okay!” I have kept this tradition in my adult life. I hang a crucifix in my sacred spaces. Even a quick glimpse of it on a busy day fills me with hope.
When life takes an unexpected turn, when health scare causes anxiety, when work gets frustrating, when addiction ruins relationships, when death brings grief and mourning, I invite us to fix a meditative gaze on a cross—or a crucifix—to remind and assure us that God is in charge and everything will be okay.
Let us pray: “We adore you, O Christ, and we praise you, because by your holy cross, you have redeemed the world.” Amen!
