From today’s Scripture: “The children of Israel lamented, ‘Would that we had meat for food! We remember the fish we used to eat without cost in Egypt, and the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic. But now we are famished; we see nothing before us but this manna.’” —Num 11:4-6
It is so easy to become dissatisfied with the present situation and to think that life was so much better in the past. And sometimes it was. But often, it is our interpretation of the past that makes it seem so much better. What the Israelites do is overlook what God is doing now. God was feeding them. God was forming them as his people. God was preparing them to enter the Promised Land. And this was a slow process. God was doing so many great things. And what do they do, and what do we often do? We miss the blessing and complain instead.
Let us pray: Lord, help me today to acknowledge what you are doing for me. Help me to be a grateful Christian, and help me to share this with others.
