From today’s Scripture: “But Thomas said to them, ‘Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands and put my finger into the nailmarks and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.’”—Jn 20:25
On this feast of St. Thomas, one may ask: What role does doubt and questioning play in the life of faith? I think there is a kind of doubt that is holy and that leads to a “holy longing.” This is the kind that leads the believer beyond mere submission to authentic questioning, which leads to authentic discipleship that ultimately rests in “My Lord and my God.”
Let us pray: My Lord, and my God.
