From today’s Scripture: “You hypocrite, remove the wooden beam from your eye first; then you will see clearly to remove the splinter from your brother’s eye.”—Mt 7:5
Years ago, I met a woman running a food pantry who shared an experience about a customer using the pantry for the first time. He wasn’t your typical client, and it would be easy to judge and wonder why he needed help. It was explained to me that the client’s wife had recently gone through a terrible health crisis which landed them at the pantry, denied by other types of assistance. Any one of us could be that client, the person who hopes others will see them clearly with dignity and grace.
Let us pray: Jesus, help us to see others as you see us. Help remove the splinters from my eyes so that I can see the needs that surround me.
