25th Sunday in Ordinary Time

From today’s Scripture: “If anyone wishes to be first, he shall be the last of all and the servant of all.”—Mk 9:35

I knew a minister who kept a pitcher and bowl in his office as a reminder that Jesus called him to lead through service to others. The Holy Thursday ritual of the washing of the feet is profound in its message that following Jesus requires us to put others’ needs before our own. It is not an easy thing to do, especially when left to our own devices. But, as Jesus teaches us to think and act differently, he also promises that he will be with us on our journey. Can I trust in him to be my strength and my guide?

Let us pray: Dear Jesus, you washed the feet of your disciples, you had compassion for the leper and gave us the example of the Good Samaritan. Help me bring your love and peace to my world by serving others as you did.
