Becoming dependent

From today’s Scripture: “Accompanying Jesus were the Twelve and some women,…Mary, called Magdalene,… Joanna,…Susanna, and many others who provided for them out of their resources.”—Luke 8:2-3

Though we never hear this passage on a Sunday, I think it is important. It shows us that Jesus walked through the countryside and lived in a mixed group of men and women. He was dependent on the women for support. Middle-class people want privacy today and do not want to be dependent on anybody. Immigrants and other poor people often learn to live more like Jesus. How important are privacy and independence for you? How would it affect your spiritual life if you did not have them?

Let us pray: Jesus, help me see more clearly how you lived and how you want me to live.
