From today’s Scripture: “Sow for yourselves justice, reap the fruit of piety; break up for yourselves a new field, for it is time to seek the Lord, till he comes and rains justice upon you.”—Hos 10:12
It is easy to postpone prayer. It’s easy to say, “I’ll pray the rosary tomorrow,” “I’ll go to confession next week,” or “I’ll overcome my disagreements another time.” Because if we don’t postpone these things, we would have to stop, listen, and answer God’s call; this requires effort and determination. Sometimes we postpone prayer because it might actually ask something of us.
In today’s reading, the prophet Hosea says, “break up for yourselves a new field, for it is time to seek the Lord.” We know that nobody can plant a field and harvest it the next day. Growth takes time, effort, and patience. Yet, before we can reap the fruits of the harvest, we must have the courage to plow the field.
Let us pray: Lord, help us to seek you today, not tomorrow, and give us the courage to answer your call, even when it is difficult.
