28th Monday in Ordinary Time

Access to God

From today’s Scripture: “… because at the preaching of Jonah they repented, and there is something greater than Jonah here.”—Luke 11:32

As believers, today we have more than even the people who walked with Jesus and heard him speak. Through baptism and confirmation we have the Holy Spirit. We have a risen Lord and freedom from the power of sin. We have a compilation of the revelations of every prophet of God as well as the writings of his closest followers for direction and encouragement. We are part of a community of millions of people that share our beliefs.

And yet, I often take for granted the access I have to God. Such is the nature of being human. We are forgetful and our faith is often scattered in the wind of desire, envy and most of all, fear.

Let us pray: Lord God, sometimes I forget that you are the Alpha and Omega, that you hold the answers to the great problems we see in the world today. Deliver me, Lord, from the things that damage my relationship with you.
