From today’s Scripture: “‘Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again; but whoever drinks the water I shall give will never thirst; the water I shall give will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.’ The woman said to him, ‘Sir, give me this water, so that I may not be thirsty or have to keep coming here to draw water.’”—Jn 4:13-15
In this passage, Jesus speaks to the Samaritan woman at the well, using water as a powerful metaphor for spiritual fulfillment. Physical water quenches thirst temporarily, but the “living water” that Jesus offers satisfies eternally. This living water represents the grace, love, and salvation found in Christ.
The woman, like many of us, initially understands Jesus’ words in a literal sense—she desires relief from her daily labor of drawing water. However, Jesus invites her to a deeper understanding: He offers a relationship with God that will sustain her soul forever.
Let us pray: Lord Jesus, thank you for this reminder of the beauty of being your follower offers us. Let us always remember the living water you offer us so abundantly.
