Third Monday of Lent

Daily Reflection

Third Monday of Lent

How am I living today?

From today’s Scripture: When shall I go and behold the face of God?”—Ps 42:2

Christ teaches his disciples today about the rejection a prophet faces  in his native land. Jesus is the prophet in his native land, which rejected him even to the point of killing him on the cross. In John’s Gospel we read, “He came to that which was His own [that which belonged to Him—His world, His creation, His possession], and those who were His own [people—the Jewish nation] did not receive and welcome Him.”

This is the reality we see in our world. At work, people face ridicule, scorn, and even false accusations from their fellow employees. In the political world, dictators treat agents of positive change with arrests, detentions.

We live in a polarized world these days. As Christians, Jesus is calling us to heal the divided world using the medicine of love. To be able to be an agent of truth, though, needs a great discipline. The devil is always there to tempt the Christians, using pride, power, and material enticements as bait. The great hope for us Christians is that we have the spirit of God who strengthens us and who enlightens us to ponder and defeat the temptations of the evil one. This is the way to Calvary, and it needs great discipline and self-denial.

Let us pray: Lord, give me a steadfast faith. Help me to see your face in the face of everyone I meet. Help me, through your love, to bring unity where there is division.
