From today’s Scripture: “Have I been with you for so long a time and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.”—Jn 14:9
Today as we celebrate the Feast of Saints Philip and James, we read from John’s account of the Last Supper. Even though the disciples have been following Jesus for some time, we read that they are still learning. Thomas asks, “Master, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?” and Philip states, “show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.” Jesus replies, “Have I been with you for so long a time and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.”
Sometimes I get so caught up in life that I may forget to see Jesus in the person sitting in front of me. I give thanks to God for those people whose words and actions have helped me to recognize God by their love of me despite my mistakes.
Let us pray: God our Father, open my eyes so that I may see you today. Open my ears so that I may hear you. Open my heart that you may enter.
