From today’s Scripture: “Jesus said to his disciples: ‘When the Advocate comes whom I will send you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, he will testify to me.’” —Jn 15:26
In today’s reading, Jesus again promises the Holy Spirit will come to the apostles. While Jesus was with the apostles, he taught them with his words and prepared them for when he wasn’t physically with them. All the while he was teaching them, he knew that some of his teachings were going over their heads. However, he knew that he had an ace in his pocket, the Holy Spirit. He prepared them to receive the insight provided when they received the Holy Spirit at Pentecost—much as we have to lean on the Holy Spirit to understand our vocation.
Let us pray: Jesus, as we struggle through the trials and tribulations of this world, help us to realize that we are not alone. Let us listen for the quiet strength of the Holy Spirit.
